Smart Diabetes Living publishes practical, lived-experience guidance and general information about Type 1 diabetes. This page explains how we approach content, accuracy, and review.
Voice and perspective
Most content is written by Philip Hall, an adult who has lived with Type 1 diabetes for 34+ years. It draws on lived experience and references credible clinical, scientific and policy sources. It is not medical advice and is not written by a clinician.
Sources and accuracy
Health claims, clinical statements, technology descriptions, and policy claims are cross-referenced against credible primary sources where available (peer-reviewed research, established diabetes organisations such as JDRF, Diabetes Australia, ADA, the IDF; government health departments; reputable clinical guidelines). Our internal Source and Accuracy Register tracks every meaningful claim and its source.
Clinical review
The books are written from Philip’s lived experience with Type 1 diabetes and are not peer-reviewed clinical publications. Beyond Burnout has a foreword by Jane Overland NP, CDE, MPH, PhD, and Jane has also given Beyond Burnout a positive five-star Amazon review. Both are disclosed openly on the Beyond Burnout book page. The remaining books and resource pages have not been formally clinically reviewed. Where claims rely on published clinical sources, we cite or signal them. We do not represent the books as medical texts.
Manufacturer neutrality
We do not run sponsored editorial, undisclosed affiliate content, or product placements. When products are mentioned in technology content, it is categorically (e.g. “hybrid closed-loop AID systems”) rather than by brand. Where specific products must be named for accuracy, it is disclosed.
Corrections
We correct errors promptly and visibly. To report a factual error, clinical inaccuracy, or accessibility issue, please use the contact page.
AI and content
We use AI tools to assist with editing, structure, and information retrieval. Final voice, judgement and approval rests with Philip Hall. We do not publish AI-generated medical content. Where AI tools are used in research or drafting, the content is reviewed for accuracy and voice before publication.
Editorial independence
Editorial direction is independent of any sponsor, partner, or advertiser. Any future commercial arrangements will be disclosed on the relevant pages in line with our Partnership Disclosure policy, and will not influence safety or clinical content.
