When to seek emergency care
If you or someone in your care is experiencing severe hypoglycaemia, diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA), confusion, loss of consciousness, severe chest pain, severe shortness of breath, or any other medical emergency, call your local emergency number (000 in Australia, 999 in the UK, 911 in the US) immediately.
Talk to your diabetes team about
- Insulin doses and adjustments.
- Starting or changing diabetes technology.
- Significant changes in glucose patterns.
- Sick day rules for your specific situation.
- Pregnancy planning, contraception, and reproductive health with Type 1.
- Mental health, including burnout that’s affecting daily functioning.
- Any concerns about complications.
